alrighty hi i'm driftwood, he/him 👍this is my journal where i occasionally post random things, mainly just diary-type posts really. i'm not that active on here but i'm trying to get in the habit of posting here more
you can look at my profile for alllll of my interests and more detailed info n so on, but for here, some of my biggest interest are: franz ferdinand (the band), comedy (both comedians and comedy media AND the more literary kind of stuff), horror, homestuck and supernatural
rn i don't limit access to anything i post but maybe in the future i'll change that? idk. if i do decide to start limiting access to personal posts i'll say so n you can ask for access here if you want i guess

Apr. 2nd, 2025 11:39 pmlast week i saw a doctor about my constant leg pains and she didn’t immediately dismiss it as me not exercising enough (yay!!) & i had to have a blood test for like 9 different things. apparently that test revealed ?something?? because i had to go get another test today, soooo. perhaps i’ll find out why my legs hurt all the time soon yippee!! the doctor i saw said she thinks it might be arthritis but we’re not sure yet.
in other news… i got 74% on the maths thing i had last week!!! i’m very happy about that especially since i got 45% on the one before it 😭
OMG ALSO. black mirror season 7 comes out in like . 1 week… scarey!! (my thoughts on this below the cut)

Mar. 31st, 2025 09:31 amgeneral life updatez: got an A+ on my video essay about representation of homosexuality in 80s-90s TV comedy YIPPEE 🎉 i knew being insanely autistic about comedy would come in handy one day. also got a B+ for the doco about my sister’s professional pokemon playing which is pretty awesome… aaand got an A on my essay for literature. im kind of on a roll here 🔥 fingers crossed the trend continues with the chemistry assessment i have today… and the maths one i had last week (which was actually pretty okay! partially because i was able to have a fast-acting adhd tablet beforehand unlike last time, so i could actually focus. and also it was just an easier topic)
the weekend just passed i went to a convention which was fun! i cosplayed dave strider and met one other dave cosplayer plus a sollux and a terezi :-D the number of hs cosplayers at cons is dwindling a bit i think but the hs fans remain… i was complimented on my cosplay by several people including someone who got out their karkat plush to show me, so that was cool! and a couple of artists i’d bought from before recognised me which was also quite fun (one person gave me a free bag and some stickers bc i was in hs cosplay as well which was pretty neat)

superkaylo finding
Mar. 19th, 2025 05:37 pmyesterday i made the most wonderful find on the internet. i was looking around for anything relating to the original print version of superkaylo*, having already looked at every archived comic from the website, and GUESS WHAT! i found (i think) the entire thing. some beautiful soul on cookandbombd shared a link to a mediafire or smth upload of a .cbz file of it, and at first i didn’t get my hopes up because i’ve been burnt before with long-deleted media upload links but. by some wondrous twist of fate, despite the link no longer working, it HAD been archived late last year before it got deleted. and even then i didn’t want to get too excited because archived links don’t always work with this type of thing… but it worked!! i was able to download a .rar file and from there i could extract a .cbz file (a file type i’d never heard of prior to yesterday), which i could *then* convert to pdf AND IT WORKED! AND IT WAS FULLY READABLE! and contained several comics that had been uploaded to the superkaylo website, only in much higher quality because they’d been scanned somewhat recently and not on 1998 CB’s horrible scanner. and it was so so awesome. the comics themselves are nothing special really but its just so cool that i can read it in full. (well, i think it’s in full— 32 pages seems like a decent amount for a little comic book that got sold around casually)

Mar. 6th, 2025 04:35 pm GUESS WHAT BOOK I PICKED UP FROM THE SHOPS YESTERDAY… inside black mirror!! i spent all of yesterday afternoon reading it up until the point where i had to stop to avoid spoiling the show for myself . twas awesome im very happy i bought it even it did end up costing $79.99 because i got it ordered in and stuff (i only had to pay $29.99 tho, the rest i could pay off with the gift card i got)

Mar. 6th, 2025 04:31 pmyet again i find myself putting off working on an assignment due extremely soon. i need to finish editing my one minute documentary for media but i dont wannaaaa. because adobe premiere pro is a sick and twisted program that is actively annoying to use . but the doco is due at 11:59pm tonight AKA in 7 1/2 hours so . i must do something (i also would prefer to not submit it totally last minute so realistically ive got a bit less time)
finally done with that art assessment!!!

on the subject of schoolwork, i haven't posted much here in a while because the horrors (homework and tests to study for) have been taking over far too much of my time u_u but for now i've actually got not very much i need to do so yippee!
i also ordered "inside black mirror" from my local bookstore yesterday so i'm pretty excited about that :-D that reminds me. i fear i'm reaching new levels of autism with my charlie brooker obsession. i've been scouring the internet for like, old comics of his, old shows he was in, etc. and ive ended up finding some insanely obscure stuff. like i now have seen that man get into petty drama on comedy forums in 1999 and i found his old comics website . AND ive been trying to find footage of "the kit" (that bbc knowledge tech show he cohosted in 1999) and i swear to god there's so little footage out there arghhh... that said im incredibly glad to have gotten this obsession in today's day because there's so many wonderful people who've uploaded their old vhs tapes onto youtube and so many other things that make this old stuff easier to find if, like me, you were busy not existing when it originally aired. AND ALSOOO theres the fact that the entirety of pc zone is now available on archive. how awesome is that. (my gradual read-through of pc zone started out purely to read cb's old reviews and cartoons but its rapidly branching out into some genuine interest in pc gaming and computers in general)

Feb. 2nd, 2025 02:56 pmfirst of all: turns out my art research project thing isn't due for another 10 DAYS. i'd already almost finished it by the time my teacher revealed this information online literally a few minutes ago but still YIPPEE!!!
anyway in other more big news: the day before yesterday, friday, was the first day back to school after the summer holidays! i won't lie it was kind of very tiring because i hadn't gotten re-adjusted to the general noise and business of school yet, so by my last class i was kind of dying and couldn't rrreally understand half of what i could hear (exacerbated by being in french class), but i suppose that's just something i'll have to deal with for the first few days or maybe a week until i get back into the groove of things.
it was awesome getting to see all my friends in person again though, and i can safely say i'm genuinely excited for the fact that for the next 9 or so weeks i'll get to be around my friends at least 5 days a week. ALSO there was a new guy who sat with me and my friends in the canteen at lunch, which was pretty awesome. by "new guy" i mean both new to sitting with us and new to the school as a whole, it was his first day. he moved here from dubai which is neat
aaand lastly can i just say it is SO. HOT. where i am right now. and will continue to be for the next several days. yesterday im fairly sure it was nearly 40° (celcius) and right now its around 35°, give or take. i'm not exactly overheating or anything since i'm inside with the aircon on, but still. also having the aircon on makes literally everything, including food, weirdly moist and it's very annoying. i'm guessing it's got something to do with the humidity... maybe it's not the aircon at all but the hot weather itself. hm...

also today's the last day of summer holidays...... tragic. i did a ton of work on my art hw yesterday and ive FINALLY decided on a topic for my media thing so that's good -- also it turns out that neither of those projects are due tomorrow like i thought, THANK GOD.

Jan. 28th, 2025 03:32 pmi finished all my maths and french stuff about a week ago and i’ve made plenty of progress on my art project but i still need to actually turn it into something presentable and not just writing in my book, and my media project is. frighteningly incomplete. i need to plan out this documentary & probably do another film inspo study but i 1. have NO ideas for my documentary and 2. for some reason really dont want to do another film inspo study. EVEN THOUGH I LIKE DOING THEM ONCE I GET STARTED.
hopefully writing this down and putting it in my journal will make me hold myself accountable and actually do some more work on them soon. because they are kind of sort of due in 3 days 😭

perhaps i'll put off working on BOTH assignments by working on yet another homework assignment (involving analysing an artwork and creating a presentation about it)... much to think about

today i read a lot of mediocre fanfiction for a ship i dislike because theyre the only fics available in that fandom . it was interesting and quite funny sometimes. most of the fics were unfinished which is kinda sad 😔
oh yeah and last night i went to see my friend perform in a musical. it was super good!! i love live theatre sm. one day i’d love to be in a play or musical but currently it’s just not something i see myself doing bc tbh i do NOT want to perform in front of a ton of people from school. hashtag they don’t deserve my brilliant acting /jokes
last night i also tried to rewatch american psycho again (last time i rewatched it i fell asleep because it was late at night and i was in bed). i ended up falling asleep AGAIN because i didn’t learn from the last time and i watched it late at night while in bed 😭 one day i’ll rewatch it in full. one day
